For a long time, we thought that idea competitions and hackathons would be the startups of the future, but two or three days of intensive brainstorming sessions rarely produce tangible results. A new international innovation community, Pozi.io, aims to change this.

For a decade, Pozi.io's creators have sought to seed the startup world with ideas from innovation competitions. Seeing startup entrepreneurs quarantined by the Covid19 epidemic led them to the rerealization that finding workable solutions to the problems of the crisis would require making the systems that help ideas happen more efefficientlyThey also need to make innovation systems sustainable to find a way out of the crisis.

The basic problem is that the hackathon format, which was developed and commonly used many years ago, does not seem to generate enough viable projects anywhere. The young people who collaborate in these events work very intensively on their ideas for 2-3 days, but most of them - even the best ones - fade into oblivion within a few weeks. Often, at the next event, a different team will be trying to solve the same problem, brainstorming and planning for days. The result is usually the same. The mortality rate of ideas in the startup world is many times higher than what is acceptable.

Big idea competition - big waste?

Successful large companies and banks have been looking for the best ideas and startups for years. Global competitions can attract thousands of ideas, but the results are dismal even at these spotlight events. There is often very little difference between the winners, the best chosen by the jury, and the rest. Between the ten winners and the thousands of failed entries, there may as well be the talent of the future.

"At such innovation events, hackathons, we not only waste ideas but also talent, which otherwise big companies are looking for in universities with a torch," said Roland Kovács, CEO of Pozi.io. - The final result of the competition is an Excel spreadsheet that will be forgotten by the organizers over time. The ideas are never published and in a month's time no one will remember them."

What makes implementation more efficient?

Most ideas and startups fail due to a lack of validation. If the idea creators try to succeed by solving their problems without consulting the market, most of the time they fail. What if we could have a one-stop shop for idea creators, prospective co-founders, advisors, experts, students, and investors? A place where the players in the startup ecosystem can introduce themselves, meet, discuss, debate, and act as a real online community. A place where ideas are no longer lost and where like-minded innovators of different nationalities can quickly and easily find partners for their projects. All the features of the innovation community site, from matrix-based search to an efficient one-pager generator for projects, will serve this purpose.

Bursting the bubble

Pozi.io has also rethought the usual social media model, replacing Facebook and Linkedin friendship-based networking with openness, where innovators can access information based on their interests. Even at the sign-up stage, community members are mapped unusually. It doesn't matter what university degree you have, how many jobs you've had, or what language you speak. Rather, the ecosystem is searchable by interests, skills, and roles in the startup world.

Universities, incubators, and large companies

Pozi.io started to build its community with the Restrat2020 idea competition against Covid19, but now offers services to a wider range of target groups. The site can be used to organize and follow up on small or large local or international events. Members of Generation Y and Z are also welcome to join, and POZI.io is also planning special groups for university innovation organizations to organize idea competitions. The site can bring together the innovation challenges of large companies with the ideas of their brainstormers, even generating solutions to specific problems.
